Who we are...

Akodon Ecological Consulting is a unique combination of zoological expertise and journalistic power, provided by scientist, educator and journalist  Adrian Barnett.  He studies ecology in the field worldwide, then gets his own stories and other ecological masterpieces into print and onto the airwaves.

What we do...

We go into the jungle and collect data, like mammal surveys in Guyana, Belize, and Brazil. We make radio programs for BBC World Service radio. We write articles for New Scientist Magazine, BBC Wildlife Magazine, and more. We give lectures about conservation projects and fabulous animals. We take kids and adults on nature walks in nearby parks or in distant jungles. In short, we try to do it all!

What's an 'Akodon'?

Akodon is a genus of South American rodents. Highly diverse, and occurring all the way from Venezuela to Tierra del Fuego, the 33-odd species live in temperate habitats like Andean grasslands, Chilean pine forests and the Argentinian pampas. Like Adrian Akodons are curious generalists. Like Adrian, Akodons are everywhere! (also they were the subject of  Adrian's Master's thesis).
